Popular Areas of Mammoth Lakes
Canyon Lodge Area
Canyon Lodge sits at the bottom of Lincoln Mountain and is the largest lodge at Mammoth. This lodge sits at the top of Lakeview Blvd, and Canyon Blvd., just above the Village at Mammoth. This area of the mountain is usually open (snow dependent) from before Christmas until the end of April. During the winter and summer Canyon Lodge hosts many events from concerts and New Years parties to the “Kamikazi” downhill bike games. People love this area of town for its easy accessibility to the Mountain, as well as being close-by to the year round events that take part in the Village. A gondola connects Canyon Lodge to the Village and runs all throughout winter and for select events in the summer. In the winter, families find it easiest to be based out of Canyon Lodge as it is host to the largest ski and snowboard schools on the mountain, with a large cafeteria that caters many food and drink choices. Free public transportation runs year round throughout the Canyon area, making it easy for a visitor to get around without a car. The major condo complexes in this area are Chamonix, 1849, Sierra Megeve, and Mountainback. Many large, newer homes line the streets leading to and from Canyon Lodge. The median home price in this area is $900,000.
Village at Mammoth
The Village at Mammoth is a development project that was completed in 2004 when Intrawest owned the resort. It is made up of three separate high-end condominium projects, Grand Sierra Lodge, White Mountain Lodge, and Lincoln House. These three condo complexes sit 5 stories high and surround the Village, with a heated pool and hot-tub located in the center. These complexes contain 1, 2, and 3-bedroom privately owned units that are rentable on a nightly basis. The Westin Hotel sits just above the Village, only a stones-throw away. The Village is a quaint, cobblestone lined space home to many restaurants and shops. It is a great place to sit and enjoy al-fresco dining, and is very family (and pooch!) friendly. The Village is busy and bustling in the winter and summer, with it playing host to a plethora of events ranging everywhere from outdoor concerts and fireworks shows to wine-tastings and food events. During the winter season, the Village is easily accessible from the mountain through a brief five-minute scenic gondola ride. People that own property in the Village want to be in the “center of it all.”
Mammoth Knolls is a subdivision in the town of Mammoth Lakes, located adjacent to the Village at Mammoth and somewhat above, and to the North, of Main Street. This area is forested, secluded and quiet, yet close in proximity to all the events that happen in the Village. The Knolls is also the closest subdivision to the Main Lodge area, being located at the bottom of the main road (Mineret Rd.) that leads to Mammoth Mountain. This close proximity is great in the winter, and makes it easy to avoid resort traffic. The main streets that run through this area are Mammoth Knolls Drive, and Grindlewald Road. Mammoth Knolls is unique in that it is completely made up of single-family homes, without any condo complexes. People that live in this area enjoy the quiet and peacefully wooded landscape, and the feeling of being somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle of town. The median home price in this area is $700,000.
The Majestic Pines neighborhood is a great, family-friendly neighborhood that is quiet and peaceful. It easily accesses the bike path on Lake Mary Road as well as the path on Meridian. At the dead end of Majestic Pines you are right next to the 4th hole and the 5th tee box of Sierra Star Golf Course. Camp High Sierra’s entrance is on Majestic Pines Road and is a nice wooded area. It is mostly single-family residences in this area but there are a few condo complexes as well. Two of the largest complexes are Bigwood Condos and Tyrol Village. Enjoy this area with a short walk to the village as well as to the ski slopes with Eagle Lodge right down the road.
The surrounding area of Sierra Star Golf Course is a prime location for an enjoyable time in the Mammoth Lakes area. Sierra Star is located on the corners of Minaret Road and Meridian Blvd. From multi-million dollar custom homes in the Starwood subdivision to newer condos such as Mammoth Green, Solstice, The Timbers and The Cabins at Crooked Pines that over look the linx, there are great options for every buyer. The newest addition to this area is Graystone, consisting of 7 custom homes zoned for nightly rentals – a rare opportunity in Mammoth. Another premier property with extraordinary amenities is Tallus, fractional ownership homes. It is the only member owned private ski and golf club in Mammoth.
Eagle Lodge is one of three ski lodges at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort. Encompassed around the slopes is Juniper Springs Resort. Eagle Run, Juniper Crest, Juniper Springs hotel, and Sunstone are all part of this resort property and all provide ski-in ski-out access. Next door to Juniper is Aspen Creek condos and The Summit condos both walking distance to the lifts. Above Eagle Lodge is Juniper Rd, located off of Lake Mary Rd. This area provides gorgeous views, ski-in ski-out access and multi-million dollar custom homes. This is one of the best subdivisions in Mammoth Lakes.
This location is close to Main Street providing restaurants and shopping and bus stops within walking distance. This is a family friendly location with the majority of properties being homes with a few townhomes and condos in the mix. It is a quiet area with not much vehicular traffic and is very close to The Village as well as the bike path on Main allowing you to safely walk or bike to the Post Office, coffee shops, and Luxury Outlets.
