Popular Areas of Mammoth Lakes
Canyon Lodge Area
Canyon Lodge sits at the bottom of Lincoln Mountain and is the largest lodge at Mammoth. This lodge sits at the top of Lakeview Blvd, and Canyon Blvd., just above the Village at Mammoth. This lodge is the first of the three to undergo a complete remodel by the Aspen group, Alterra, who recently purchased Mammoth Mountain. They are projected to invest over 100 million into Mammoth in the next few years and have a very aggressive 5-year plan set in place. This area of the mountain is usually open (snow dependent) from before Christmas until the end of April. During the winter and summer Canyon Lodge hosts many events from concerts and New Years parties to the pond skim at the end of the ski season. People love this area of town for its easy accessibility to the Mountain, as well as being close-by to the year round events that take part in the Village. A gondola connects Canyon Lodge to the Village and runs all throughout winter and for select events in the summer. In the winter, families find it easiest to be based out of Canyon Lodge as it is host to the largest ski and snowboard schools on the mountain, with a large cafeteria that caters many food and drink choices. Free public transportation runs year round throughout the Canyon area, making it easy for a visitor to get around without a car. The major condo complexes in this area are Chamonix, 1849, Sierra Megeve, Mountainback, Silver Bear, Sonenalp, Courchevel, Snowbird, St. Anton, Mammoth West, Mammoth Ski & Racquet, Timber Ridge and the area’s newest addition, Mountainside. Many large, newer homes line the streets leading to and from Canyon Lodge. The median home price in this area is $900,000.
Village at Mammoth
The Village at Mammoth is a development project that was completed in 2004 when Intrawest owned the resort. It is made up of three separate high-end condominium projects, Grand Sierra Lodge, White Mountain Lodge and Lincoln House. These three condo complexes sit 5 stories high and surround the Village, with a heated pool and hot-tub located in the center. These complexes contain 1, 2, and 3-bedroom privately owned units that are rentable on a nightly basis. The Westin Hotel sits just above the Village, only a stones-throw away, along with 80I50 Private Residence Club and Fireside condo complex right next door. The Village is a quaint, cobblestone lined space, home to many restaurants and shops. It is a great place to sit and enjoy al-fresco dining, and is very family (and pooch!) friendly. The Village is busy and bustling in the winter and summer, with it playing host to a plethora of events ranging everywhere from outdoor concerts and firework shows to wine-tastings and food events. During the winter season, the Village is easily accessible from the mountain through a brief five-minute scenic gondola ride. People that own property in the Village want to be in the “center of it all.”
Knolls
Mammoth Knolls is a subdivision in the town of Mammoth Lakes, located adjacent to the Village at Mammoth and somewhat above, and to the North, of Main Street. This area is forested, secluded and quiet, yet close in proximity to all the events that happen in the Village. The Knolls is also the closest subdivision to the Main Lodge area, being located at the bottom of the main road (Mineret Rd.) that leads to Mammoth Mountain. This close proximity is great in the winter and makes it easy to avoid resort traffic. The main streets that run through this area are Mammoth Knolls Drive and Grindlewald Road. Mammoth Knolls is unique in that it is completely made up of single-family homes, without any condo complexes. People that live in this area enjoy the quiet and peacefully wooded landscape, and the feeling of being somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle of town. The median home price in this area is $700,000.
